Faculty
Teach six-credit course designed to introduce students to conceptual and practical skills in researching, writing, editing and presenting information for all media, all purposes. Developed course to teach blend of theory and techniques for multimedia, emphasizing intensive writing instruction. Teach second course each semester, including intermediate reporting, in-depth reporting, multimedia messages and magazines.
1994 to 1996
Teaching Assistant
Assisted in teaching Law of Mass Communication, an advanced course. Taught weekly discussion sections, including generating and grading exercises, presenting additional material and reviewing with students. The course provides a broad background in principles of media law, emphasizing the First Amendment, regulation, access to information and libel.
1994 to 1995
Lecturer and Teaching Assistant
Taught Newspaper Editing, an intermediate-level course designed to instruct students in copy, content and page editing. Emphasized fact-checking, accuracy and principles of design, stressing use of new technologies in the gathering and presentation of news.

Taught students in Reporting, an introductory class. Goals were to encourage clear, concise writing and provide a working knowledge of basic reporting skills, including interviewing, gathering documents, thinking critically, generating ideas and evaluating sources.

Facilities and Equipment Committee Chair
Lead group examining policy and funding considerations in implementing school-wide technology and space upgrades. Weigh impact on teaching, research, administrative and external relations activities. Manage budget for technology installations, repairs and replacements.

Constituent Relations Committee Chair/Centennial Chair
Coordinated external relations efforts, including developing brand identity, implementing new communications materials and improving alumni interactions. Contributed to revamp of Web site and information-gathering strategies. Planned and executed all promotions, activities and events related to the School’s Centennial.

Assisted director with special projects, including publications, alumni relations and Web site. Responsible for producing newsletters for alumni and undergraduates, writing and editing content for Web pages, and indexing and organizing alumni information.

Researched and wrote majority of stories for annual Freedom of Information Issue of Quill, a magazine for journalists published monthly by the Society of Professional Journalists. Generated story ideas for the issue, emphasizing a five-story package on student newspaper censorship.

Managed internal and some marketing communications for physician group practice with 800 doctors and 1,500 staff. Accomplishments included development, launch and maintenance of Internet site and strengthening of internal communications to physicians and staff. Assisted in communications for merger to create one of the 10 largest multispecialty physician groups in the nation.
